Why Use an Ultrasonic Parts Cleaner? 6 Advantages Over Manual Cleaning

Resin, pitch, and coolant residue on saw blades is more than cosmetic — it degrades cut quality, increases feed force, accelerates wear, and reduces sharpening accuracy. Ultrasonic cleaning solves all of this, faster and more thoroughly than any manual method.

Reaches Every Surface

Ultrasonic cavitation penetrates gullets, holes, chip breakers, and recesses that brushes and cloths cannot reach — completely clean, not just surface-clean.

10× Faster Than Manual Scrubbing

A typical saw blade cycle runs 10–20 minutes with zero manual effort. Manual scrubbing the same blade takes 30–60 minutes of hard physical work per blade.

Non-Abrasive — Geometry Preserved

No abrasive contact whatsoever. Carbide tips, ground faces, and polished surfaces come out exactly as they went in — just without the contamination.

Better Sharpening Results

Clean blades sharpen more accurately. Residue on blade faces contaminates grinding wheels and CBN/diamond discs, shortening their life and reducing precision.

No Harsh Solvents Required

The UTR80 uses biodegradable ultrasonic detergent — no flammable solvents, no hazardous chemical baths, and no complex waste disposal obligations.

Batch Clean Multiple Tools

The 80-litre tank handles multiple blades or tooling sets in a single cycle — dramatically improving throughput for sharpening businesses and production workshops.

Ultrasonic Blade Cleaner FAQs — Saw Blades, TCT, Clipper Blades & More

What is an industrial ultrasonic cleaner?
An industrial ultrasonic cleaner uses high-frequency sound waves — typically 20–40 kHz — to generate microscopic cavitation bubbles throughout a liquid bath. When these bubbles collapse near a part's surface, the localised pressure blasts away resin, grease, pitch, and residue from every exposed surface, including tight geometries that manual cleaning cannot reach. The MVM UTR80 operates at 28 kHz and is purpose-built for circular saw blades, knives, and industrial parts.
How does ultrasonic blade cleaning work?
The blade is submerged in the UTR80's 80-litre tank filled with water and a biodegradable ultrasonic detergent. The integrated 2.8 kW ultrasonic generator drives transducers in the tank floor, producing 28 kHz sound waves that create cavitation throughout the liquid. Collapsing bubbles blast contamination off blade gullets, body, and carbide tips without any abrasive contact. Heat (adjustable up to 80°C) accelerates the process, with most blades fully cleaned in 10–20 minutes.
What types of parts can the UTR80 clean?
The UTR80 cleans any metal cutting tool or industrial part that fits its 550 × 300 × 550 mm tank and 500 mm maximum blade diameter capacity. This includes circular saw blades, TCT blades, bandsaw blades, clipper blades, chipper and joinery knives, circular knives, shear blades, granulator blades, and precision engineering components such as bearings and gears.
How long does a cleaning cycle take?
Most saw blades and cutting tools are clean in 10 to 20 minutes, depending on contamination level and cleaning fluid. The UTR80's digital timer is programmable from 0 to 999 minutes, so you can run quick passes for lightly soiled tools or extended soaking cycles for heavy industrial parts. Multiple blades can be processed in a single cycle when properly supported in the rack.
Is ultrasonic cleaning safe for carbide-tipped (TCT) blades?
Absolutely. Ultrasonic cleaning is non-abrasive and fully safe for tungsten carbide (TCT), high-speed steel (HSS), and tool-steel blades. Unlike wire brushing or abrasive pads, cavitation does not alter blade geometry, damage carbide brazing, or scratch polished surfaces. Many blade manufacturers specifically recommend ultrasonic cleaning as the preferred method for carbide-tipped tooling.
What ultrasonic frequency does the UTR80 use, and why does it matter?
The UTR80 operates at 28 kHz. This is an effective standard industrial frequency that produces aggressive cavitation to remove heavy resin and pitch deposits, while remaining gentle enough for precision-ground cutting edges and carbide-tipped tooling. Higher frequencies (40+ kHz) are generally better for delicate electronics; 28 kHz is optimal for workshop tooling cleaning.
How does ultrasonic cleaning compare to solvent cleaning or manual scrubbing?
Ultrasonic cleaning is faster, more thorough, and safer than both. Manual scrubbing is time-consuming and rarely reaches inside gullets and recesses. Solvent baths require hazardous chemical handling, produce waste disposal obligations, and can dull blade surfaces over time. The UTR80 uses biodegradable detergent in a closed tank — cleaning is faster, results are more consistent, and the process is far safer for operators and the environment.
Do I need chemicals to use the UTR80?
Water alone provides some cleaning action, but a biodegradable ultrasonic detergent formulated for metal cutting tools significantly improves results — reducing cycle times and improving removal of resin, pitch, grease, and oxidation. No harsh or hazardous solvents are needed. Speak with the Tuckwell team for detergent recommendations suited to your tooling type.
Can the UTR80 clean clipper blades and veterinary trimmer blades?
Yes. The UTR80 is well suited to cleaning hair clipper blades, barber trimmer sets, and veterinary instrument blades. Ultrasonic cleaning removes lubricant, hair, debris, and product build-up quickly and hygienically — without disassembling individual blade sets. For professional clipper blade sharpening businesses, the UTR80 makes pre-sharpening cleaning fast and consistent.
Can I batch-clean multiple blades at once?
Yes. The UTR80's 80-litre tank supports batch cleaning of multiple blades in a single cycle. Use the included blade support rack to ensure parts are properly suspended and not touching each other — contact between parts during cleaning can cause surface marking. For large blades up to 500 mm diameter, clean one at a time for optimal cavitation coverage.
